Jyotish, the supreme Vedanga, is called Jyoti (or light) of Vedas. It is also called Chakshu (eyes) of Vedas, via which the unknown can be known.
According to some, Jyotish is the boat that one can harness to traverse comfortably the vast ocean of life, full of uncertainty.
The knowledge body includes astronomy, all associated mathematics, logic, rational reasoning, etc.
Let us first understand what Vedanga is. Vedanga is made of the unison of two words. Veda: refers to the 4 Vedas + Anga means parts.
There are 6 limbs/parts of Vedic Knowledge. Together, they help one study Vedas meaningfully. They provide supplementary or additional help and support to comprehend and digest the knowledge of Vedas.
The six Vedanga are : Shiksha (शिक्षा), Chandas (छन्द), Vyakaran (व्याकरण), Nirukta (निरुक्त), Kalpa (कल्प) & Jyotish (ज्योतिष).
-Jatak (Natal Horoscope): involves casting the horoscope of an individual based on the birth details to interpret his/her character and personality and study life in various domains: physical/health, wealth, siblings, real-estate, marriage, children, work, achievements, business, parents, education, spirituality, etc. Timing of events in the life of a native.
-Prashna/Query: To respond to questions in the short term,1 year or so.
-Muhurta/Auspicious time to begin important events in life: marriage, entering a house, initiating learning, starting a work/business, buying and selling assets, etc
